Going the Distance

The girls Woodbridge track team is back in full swing and they’ve pushed through their Winter season as they will soon transition into outdoor track in the Spring.

Due to lost time because of “Covid-19” in the previous year, athletes on the team have come back ready to work and determined to prepare themselves for the upcoming Spring season. I met with Seniors, Gabby Bishop and Hannah Hasselius to talk about their indoor track season. They gave me more insight on what it’s like to be a part of the girls track team here at Woodbridge and what it’s like transitioning from indoor to outdoor track.

When I asked Bishop what she is most looking forward to she stated “I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do during the outdoor season and seeing what my team accomplishes during the championship season”. Since this is her last year at Woodbridge she also left some advice for her younger teammates as well. Bishop displays encouragement as she states “Not every race is going to be the best and you won’t win every one, but putting in the work and racing against the clock is what you need to focus on”. Bishop mentioned that she looks forward to becoming physically stronger while forming bonds with her teammates during the Spring season.

Like Bishop, Hannah Hasselius throughout her four years of track here at Woodbridge, has learned that mentality matters most. “No matter what kind of shape you think you are in, if you believe you can do it, you can”, Hasselius stated. As Hasselius reflected back on her season she expressed “Being on this team has taught me that you must hold yourself accountable in order to provide the best support for your team”. When asked what the highlight of her track season was, she expressed that it was winning the district title for the 500m. “I was originally seated at 4th, but worked myself to first place in the last 15m of the race. I had great competition and the race was a PR for me”. Hasselius looks forward to the outdoor states meet in the Spring.

As the Winter indoor track season comes to a close, the Spring season for outdoor track approaches. These determined athletes can’t wait to be able to get outside in warmer weather and put their skills to the test. The girls Woodbridge Track team is ready to work harder in the Spring and we are all excited to see the awards they will obtain and the great things that they will accomplish.
