The Viking Golf Team “gels” with an indestructible start this year. All of this is thanks to their devoted focus on group chemistry and vigorous participation towards the season.

Coach Houston claims that each one of his players are his “top athletes”. The team each individually bring their own attributes to the sport including a variety of personalities, skills, and spirit. That’s what brings them to create such a powerful group dynamic together as well as encouraging enjoyment amongst each other in the game. Team captain Jacob Steifel is a “natural leader”, with lots of experience and is an excellent player overall. As a result of this teamwork, previous matches have gone wonderfully on their behalf, all concluding in victory. Truly, Coach Houston’s personal victory is seeing his athletes balance improvement and enjoyment in the sport.

The true beauty and passion of golf often goes unrecognized by the world today. “You need to play the course as much as you play the game,” says Coach Houston. In other words, course management is crucial and an essential approach while playing. Golf has various mental elements that will always be an important aspect of the game.

After an unfortunate loss against Colgan High School, the Vikings fought hard for achieving wins against Potomac Senior and C.D. Hylton. Furthermore, the upcoming schedule consists of matches occurring at Montclair CC, Old Hickory, and Forest Greens. Also, Woodbridge completed with 2nd place in Districts. Stiefel and Brandon Rice were first team all- cardinal districts.

Coach Houston and his team want to give a great thanks and reminder of appreciation to the staff of these schools as well as all the other WSHS coaches for the kind effort they put in. They have earned a massive amount of support from these people making him feel privileged to be a coach working amongst such an amazing group of people. It is quite clear that this talented group has astonishing things coming ahead for them, including in Regionals.
