Cherry Blossom Festival
It’s Cherry Blossom season! The Cherry Blossom Festival takes place March 20th-April 17th, 2022. This is the 110th anniversary of the gifted trees from Tokyo to Washington DC. Throughout the years’ Japan has donated around 3,000 trees to the United States.
The cherry blossoms were gifted to the United States to make friends with America. The cherry blossoms are very important to Japanese culture, so this gift was significant.
“The beauty of the cherry blossom is a potent symbol equated with the evanescence of human life and epitomizes the transformation of Japanese culture throughout the ages.”
The cherry blossoms signify the season of spring and renewal, it also symbolizes the shortness of natural life, because the flowers only last a short period of time. Cherry blossoms have a lot of significance to many. This is also Japan’s unofficial national flower.
The flowers right now are in peak conduction until the 25th of March, meaning 70% of the cherry blossoms are blooming. The flowers are predicted to last a week or two, but that all depends on the weather.
Cherry blossoms are edible so one could use them to make salted pickled blossoms in hot water, used in place of green tea, used at events like weddings and any other celebration during the blooming season.
People gather around cherry blossom trees with family and friends to appreciate drinks and food under the beautiful blossoms. People often enjoy picnics and dancing during the festival. Some people even throw blooming parties, to watch the flowers bloom. There is much to learn and experience in this festival!
