Behind the Bows: Cheer team ready for districts

Marwah Wasi, School Journalist

It’s a new year filled with optimism and dedication for the 2022-2023 Cheer year. Coach Frase leads a champion-filled Cheer team with Coach Williams and Coach Laney at her side. In past years V.H.S.L. banned stunts regarding safety and COVID issues, but not this year! Be prepared for a different cheer routine with “amazing tumbling skills” said by Coach Frase. Fortunately, this happens to be the team’s strongest skill along with back spots according to Captain Jeselle Lips.

Yasmin Uidry said “people see… our work on the sidelines at a football game, but that is such a small portion.” And winning competitions for three years shows how much devotion they put in. The team has been going extra hard with practices at a gym all the way in Chantilly for the best experience possible.

The captains have been on the team for all their high school years from the start and end. The four captains; Jeselle Lips, Piper Wiggins, Yasmin Uidry, and Taliyah Williams have been tremendous role models for the younger athletes.

Although 15 seniors are graduating this year, Coach Frase is confident they “have more and more leaders every year.” Although three members were injured within the past week the ladies are fighting to keep the team strong.  Our cheerleaders continue to make an impact and pave the way as being enthusiastic athletes!
