Hustle, Hit, and Never Quit: Field Hockey
Filled with determination, the Woodbridge Field Hockey team is fighting for a great, bonded, and successful season.
This season, Katarina Van Bruggen coaches the team. She has years of playing experience which transitions well into her coaching styles. The previous coach was a male figure, so many including senior team captain, Promise Opoku-Yeboah, are excited to have a coach who will “understand things on a different level” alongside “elevate the team.” The team’s biggest competition of the season is Colgan. Coach Van Bruggen believes that “they are a strong team, but so are we”.
After a long summer of working out in the scorching heat, the JV and varsity teams are filled with devotion and comradery. Promise believes that they “are a team full of sisters”. Through the tough battles of both the physical and mental side of the sport, they’re always there for each other.
Along with the players, the coaching staff always advocates for their athletes. Opoku-Yeboah also states how they’re “always there for each other” and there “is no strong divide between JV and Varsity”. Even the younger athletes are included in these experiences. Genevieve Patterson commented on how excited she is knowing “how much she can learn” from the varsity group.
Coach Van Bruggen states the upcoming season for our Vikings is expected to be “fun and healthy, but also balanced with hard work, dedication, and winning”. These combined alongside your support are in favor of a great season for our Vikings Field Hockey program.
