Woodbridge Girls’ Lax 2023
WSHS’s hard-working Girl’s Lacrosse Team is hoping for a great 2023 spring season filled with many wins, gained confidence, and formed team bonds.
The Varsity team has a new Coach, Jessica Hale, coaching the program this year. She has previous playing experience, which will translate well onto the field and on her impact on the girls. Coach Hale hopes to be a mentor “in anyway [her players] need” her to be.
Player-wise, the team is captained by Promise Opoku Yeboah, Andrea Trivino, and Dayonna Thomas. Senior Captain, Promise, says she loves “playing with [her] teammates” and is looking forward to practicing and playing with new teammates. All captains are upperclassmen varsity returners.
This year Coach Hale’s main goals are to “Win more draws, get confident with passing, and make plays happen.” Additionally, Promise has goals to “become a [team]” and build stronger bonds with each other that they can rely on. Good team chemistry will play a big part in a successful season set for the Viking Girls’ Lax program this year.
The team finds strength in both their “honesty” and family-like, supportive bond that “shows both on and off the field.” This makes overcoming their areas to improve much simpler. Coach Hale believes the team truly just needs to focus on keeping a good mindset and “not getting discouraged” when playing teams that could be better than them.
This year’s team is an extremely hardworking group, and it showed in their recent 19-1 W over Potomac!
