Detox from the Dopamine

We are all so consumed by everything going on around us. There is so much to watch on TV, there is endless TikTok scrolling to be had, and limitless music to listen to. There is no time to just sit back, think, and reflect about where you are right now. Time to see what is good and what you need to fix to make yourself a better person and overall make your life better.  

 

That is where the Dopamine Detox comes in. “Dopamine is a chemical released in the brain that makes you feel good,” according to Health Direct. Dopamine detoxes is a cognitive behavioral therapy that encourages self-regulation of good habits. For the dopamine detox you should avoid emotional eating, excessive internet usage, gaming, gambling, shopping, porn, masturbation, thrill, novelty seeking, and recreational drugs. The main goal is to take out things that give you a fast and quick dopamine and replace them with stuff that gives you slow and long-lasting joy and happiness, like reading and hanging out with friends. 

 

There is no way to completely cut out dopamine in your body because you produce it naturally. You need dopamine to help decrease the behaviors associated with cravings, impulsivity, or addiction. The dopamine detox is good to help you ground yourself and try to live in the moment. I will be trying to detox the dopamine and you should consider it too and see how much better you feel!
