Finish the Fight

The Woodbridge Viking’s wrestling team has kept their determination through the beginning of the year as they push through the rest of their Winter season. For the seniors, it’s a bittersweet ending to their high school wrestling career. With 100 wins under his belt this season, Josh Manica, a senior on the Woodbridge Wrestling team, is on the way to finish out his last season here at Woodbridge.

Mancia has been wrestling at Woodbridge since his Freshman year and wrestling meets aren’t new to him as he has been completed since middle school. His Sophomore year, he was titled state champion in 2020. This year, Mancia recently placed 3rd in the “Beast of the East” national tournament this year, which is the toughest tournament for high schoolers’ in the country. On Josh’s senior night against Forest Park and Hylton, he won his 100th wrestling match as a viking.

I spoke to Josh about his season as a whole and what senior night meant to him as he looked back on his last year of wrestling at Woodbridge. On Mancia’s senior night he stated “This night meant a lot to me because it felt like a final goodbye to the school and my team, which was a bittersweet feeling”. This season, Mancia stated he would like to get his first “All American” under his belt before the season comes to an end. As Mancia says goodbye to his four years of wrestling as a viking, he wants his teammates to know that they should “always keep their heads held high no matter what they go through”. I asked him what he will miss most about wrestling at Woodbridge, he said “the coaches and my team will mean more to me than they will ever know and I’m extremely grateful for the time I got to spend with them”.

As the season comes to a close, Mancia also hopes to win a state title as a team this year.  Woodbridge wrestling started the season out strong and they will continue to stay focused and determined on their goals for the end of this season and for future seasons to come. Vikings wrestling has had a very successful 2021-2022 season.
