Coming off a 20–21-win vs the Colgan Sharks a week ago, the Vikings look forward to spoiling yet another homecoming game versus the Potomac Panthers.
The Vikings took the Colgan Sharks out of the water on Friday spoiling yet another homecoming for the Sharks. The Vikings banded together and pulled off a 7-20 comeback in the 4th quarter. “I’m very proud of the players, they kept fighting despite the score and it paid off.” The Vikings featured a revamped run game with senior running back Nasir Thomas having 109 yards with just 17 attempts which is the most rushing yards a Woodbridge running back has had all season. “He stepped up in a major way this game, we needed him to produce, and he did exactly that.”
Senior wide receiver Denzel Lambert racked up 79 receiving yards paired with a touchdown that came late in the 4th. On the defensive side they allowed 14 points in the first half to the sharks, “We allowed too many easy walk-in touchdowns this game, we need to improve the communication on our defense, so those little mistakes don’t happen against better opponents.” Senior linebacker Abil Kamara was able to record 2 sacks late into the game to help seal the victory for the Vikings.
Now 8 weeks (about 2 months) into the season the Vikings are 3-5 now requiring them to have to win both of their next 2 games to keep their playoff hopes alive. As the season begins to wind down Coach LB talked about his plan for practices saying, “From here on out it is all mental. We will continue to work on our gameplans to achieve what we want to achieve.” It is no secret that the Vikings have struggled offensively and that is a large talking point in practice. Coach Xavier Longerbeam said after being asked what the plan for the offense was “We will continue to work on our offensive schemes, we have the athletes to put up 70 every game we just need to execute.”
While hopes are high among the players the next two games will decide how the rest of the season pans out, senior wide receiver Denzel Lambert said, “Our goal has been to make the playoffs and to make a run since last season ended. If we lock in and play to the level our coaches know we can play at we will be fine.” The Vikings are hoping to finish the season as the 8th seed in Cardinal District which would give them a spot in the postseason which would be the first time since 2017, Senior linebacker Dominic Williams said, “It would be a great way to end off my final season. I’m just hoping everyone buys into the team and limit all their distractions outside of the team.”
With just two weeks left the Vikings season is still alive and they hope to keep it that way in their game this Friday versus the Potomac Panthers, Senior safeties Amaree Womack and Marquise Gardner said, “We get another chance to crash another homecoming this week. We know what we are capable of, and we don’t plan on our season ending on November 3rd.”
