Following a 13-0 loss versus the Potomac Panthers this past Friday, the Vikings are desperate for a win versus the Gar-Field Red Wolves this coming Friday for a chance at playoff berth.
Coming off a heartbreaking defeat versus the Panthers, the Vikings are going into this week optimistic about their chances, “We have a real shot to make it in, all we need to do is make sure we do our part.” Said Coach Xavier Longerbeam during a practice this week.
Turnovers has been a major detriment to the Vikings with Freshman quarterback Denari Hill throwing 3 interceptions (1 Pick-6) and losing a fumble late in the 4th to seal the game for the Panthers. “We have to start taking care of the football if we are going to win Friday, we can’t keep losing games due to the fact that we give the other team the ball.”
The Vikings are currently 3-6 and ranked 5th in the cardinal division due to their 2-3 division record and need a miracle to make the playoffs. This Friday determines if the Vikings are granted their first post season berth since 2017, all they need to do is beat the Gar-Field Red Wolves and hope that the Colgan Sharks can beat the Potomac Panthers in their respective game Friday night.
The Vikings are looking forward to their game this Friday due to it being Senior Night, “We want to make sure our seniors get a proper sendoff, they have worked way too hard to not experience the playoffs once.” Said junior cornerback Jadyn Lawrence-Scruggs.
While it’s obvious that the Vikings hope to make the playoffs, the Gar-Field Red Wolves are also playing for that final playoff spot. With the current standings, if the Red Wolves can come out victorious versus the Vikings, they achieve a playoff berth and go into the playoffs as the 8th seed. “The way we see it, we have a way better team, if they win and make the playoffs it’ll be a waste of a playoff spot.” Said senior safety Marquis Gardner after practice on Tuesday.
This is the Vikings’ last chance to make the playoffs a win this Friday is a requirement if they hope to play at least one more week. “We know what we need to do, the question is will we execute how we need to execute and play complimentary football.”
Senior linebacker Dominic Williams said when asked about Friday, “This is it, one last chance to show everyone why we worked so hard in the off-season.” This Friday is where it all goes down, at 7pm, at Woodbridge High School, the Vikings take on the Gar-Field Red Wolves.
